Codename Panzers: Cold War Media

SCREENSHOTS FEATURE posted on 26 AUG 2007 by Andrew Glenn

A tailer showcasing building destruction in Codename Panzers: Cold War is available to download.

Indicative of recent trends, Hungarian developer Stormregion is eschewing the highly popular, yet overexploited, World War II theme in favor of something a little more modern for its upcoming real-time strategy title, Codename Panzers: Cold War. Rewriting history by using an incident during the 1949 Berlin Airlift as the catalyst for the Cold War turning hot, Codename Panzers: Cold War boasts a new graphics engine capable of generating some impressive physical damage effects as shown in this Symphony of Destruction Trailer.

Due for release in Spring 2008, the game's other features include:

  • Authentic "Cold War" era
  • Variable squads with powerful squad leaders and perso- nalisable units with visible function upgrades
  • Unique building combat system - buildings can be destroyed or occupied to gain an advantage
  • Fascinating storyline which follows the personal fates of both familiar Codename Panzers heroes and brand new ones alike
  • Detailed "movie-like" world simulation: a truly "alive" world
  • Single player campaign with 18 exciting missions.
  • Scenario Mode: replay missions already won/unlocked in order to increase your overall score
  • More then 20 multiplayer maps and 3 modes: Domination, Cooperative and Team Match
  • Physics-based building destruction. Each building will collapse in its own unique manner, using real-time physics simulation: pieces falling from houses are assigned to various categories according to their size and mass
  • Weather changes affect gameplay and visual effects: reducing sight, movement speed, range of fire and every parameter imaginable
  • Dual display support with strategic map for making strategic decisions
  • Brand new Gepard 3 graphics engine with full vertex and pixel shader 3.0 support
The game's official website, while a master of flash programming, currently offers little further useful information, but will no doubt be updated closer to the game's release early next year.
